A
sweet little desktop scanner, fast & quiet, at an excellent price-point
for its class. Canon now sells the similar DR-2050C
which drops the SCSI-II connectivity, and adds a richer software bundle.
Technical
specifications.
Notably light: 5.5lbs / 2.5kg
The physical 30 x 10cm (11.8" x 4") footprint is somewhat
misleading: A clear area is required in front of the unit for ejected
documents - there is no output tray. Because of the relatively tight
turn in the paper path, this is not a good device for scanning photos
or cardstock. |

EZTwain
3.04 and earlier had several deficiencies in dealing with the 2080C
- For best results use EZTwain Pro 3.05 / Acquire 2.57, or later.
The Canon driver version 1.1 can crash doing a multipage acquire (at
least from FoxPro) - version 2.1 fixes this. Canon

features: |
Like
other recent Canon DR-series scanners, the 2080 ships with a 'QuickDriver'
TWAIN driver that seems generally competent and robust, having a plain
and densely functional UI, and bare-bones TWAIN capabilities with
a few quirks. Many of the advertised features of this scanner are
not controllable through standard TWAIN capabilities - but most are
accessible as custom capabilities.
Custom Capabilities
0x8000 selects Paper size Auto-detection. (INT32) Set to 1 to enable,
0 for fixed size scans.
0x8001 selects 'Skip Blank Pages' mode. (INT32) Set to 1 to enable.
Apparently selects duplex mode too.
0x8002 [we believe:] percent of black pixels times 2, required
for a page to be considered 'non blank'. (INT32)
0x8004 Delay, for Automatic Feeding. (INT32) seconds.
